          Employment Program

GROUP ACTIVITIES/COMMUNITY INTEGRATION PROGRAM

The Group Activities/Community Integration Program provides opportunities for individuals to participate in a variety of social/recreational activities typically in a group setting with opportunities for skill acquisition and enhancement of social/interpersonal skills.  On occasion this program also encompasses small group, time limited, training sessions with a targeted focus, e.g. Cooking Program.  Activities take place at our fully equipped, integrated facility as well as in the community.  In most cases participants arrive to our facility on their own and are driven home by staff.

Individuals are supported and encouraged to develop friendships, expand personal support networks, learn new skills, experience enjoyment, increase independence, explore new interests and experience the benefits of increased participation in the community.

The current month's schedule of events can be viewed on this website under "Adult Activities".

LIFE SKILLS/SUPPORTED LIVING PROGRAM

The Life Skills/Supported Living Program provides support and life skills training in the areas of finance, hygiene, social, personal safety, nutrition, meal preparation and housekeeping most frequently in a one to one individualized format within the individual's home, community and/or our facility.

The goal of the Life Skills/Supported Living Program is to provide the necessary support for individuals to live successfully in the community and experience the highest quality of life.

EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

PREPARATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS

The Employment Program consists of three training components:

COMPONENT 1 - THE "FIRST JOB SURVIVAL SKILLS"
                              VIDEO SERIES

Individuals must participate in pre-employment training utilizing the "First Job Survival Skills" video series.  This component's focus is on the characteristics and behaviours of an employee that determine whether or not they are successful in the workplace.  Upon the successful completion of Component 1, the individual will commence Component 2.

COMPONENT 2 - JOB TRAINING IN THE WORKPLACE

This portion of training takes the lessons of Component 1 and applies them in a practical workplace setting in the community with the support of a job coach.  The duration of this component may vary.  During the pre-employment training period, individuals' interests, strengths, needs, abilities and preferences are explored.  Upon the successful completion of Component 2, the individual will commence Component 3.

COMPONENT 3 - JOB PLACEMENT

This component includes resume preparation and an assisted job search.  Job coaching and transportation are provided for a limited time.  All aspects of Component 3 are individualized to meet the specific needs of the participant.  When job coaching has been discontinued the placement will be monitored and supported as required.
